Dr Chien‑Ling Lo joined BCU in June 2025 as Lecturer in Real Estate. Prior to this appointment, she served as a university teacher at the University of Sheffield from 2022 to 2025. She completed her PhD at University College London in January 2023.

Her research focuses on the intersection of property markets, public sector land management, and urban development. She examines how institutional practices, governance structures, and valuation approaches influence the use, performance, and long‑term stewardship of real estate assets, particularly within the public sector.

Dr Lo’s doctoral research investigated the dynamics of public land disposal and its implications for urban regeneration, housing delivery, and asset value over time. This work continues to shape her broader interest in how public authorities balance financial, social, and spatial objectives when managing their property portfolios.

Before entering academia, Dr Lo built a substantial professional career in the English public sector as a property surveyor. She has been a Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), specialising in commercial property, since 2009.

Drawing on more than a decade of professional experience as a Chartered Commercial Surveyor (MRICS), she brings a practice‑informed perspective to her academic work. Her research often bridges policy, valuation, and real‑world asset management challenges, with a strong commitment to generating insights that support evidence‑based decision‑making.
